The Greeks had a special fondness for nymphs. They had the sleek bodies of beautiful women without scales or tails. Their hair can be any range of color from brunette to green. Their skin can be silver, pale gold, blue, purple, white, or green.

Tethys was both sister and wife of Oceanus. She was mother of the chief rivers of the world known to the Greeks, such as the Nile, the Alpheus, the Maeander, and about three thousand daughters called the Oceanids {Nymphs that live in the sea} . Considered as an embodiment of the waters of the world she also may be seen as a counterpart of Thalassa, the embodiment of the sea.

Tethys is sculpted in shades of silvery pale green tinted in blue and greens. Her inner labia are sculpted in an earthy brown and kissed with lavender. The entire piece is tinted with a reflective pearl blue to give her the appearance of being underwater. She is set into a beautiful dark shell and hung from a long brass chain.

• Strung on a very long 30″ soldered gunmetal chain
• Vulva pendant size: 2.5″ x 1.5″
• Set into a beautiful oyster shell I picked up off the beach near my studio

The model for this piece is Chelle.

Never made with a mold. Each Vulva pendant is the hand-sculpted clay original. We prefer clay to resin for its fleshy look and texture.

“A mermaid’s comb is more than just an object with which to brush her long, flowing hair: In the Greek language the words for comb- kteis and pectin- also mean Vulva. ”
~Skye Alexander, Mermaids: The Myths, Legends & Lore

Because women don’t normally have a visual reference for what is normal ‘down there’. We can’t even see what we have! When we do have a visual reference it generally comes from porn in which women are chosen based on the shape of their Vulvas and are bleached, dyed, shaved and surgically altered. Porn Vulvas are like Ligers, they do not exist in the natural world.

We use real models to show women that no matter the shape every woman is beautiful. We use real models to show women there is no standard Vulva: they are all different and perfect as is. Bleaching is NOT required.
